Physical properties of silicone products

Viscosity of silicone products

The volumetric property of liquid, quasi-liquid or quasi-solid substance against flow, that is, the internal friction between molecules or the resistance within the flow when it is acted on by external forces. In general, viscosity is directly proportional to hardness.

Hardness of silicone products

The ability of a material to locally resist hard objects being pressed into its surface is called hardness. Silicone rubber has a Shore hardness range of 10 to 80, which gives designers the freedom to choose the required hardness to achieve a specific function. A variety of intermediate hardness values can be achieved by mixing polymer substrates, fillers, and additives in varying proportions. Likewise, the time and temperature of heating can also change the hardness without damaging other physical characteristics.

Tensile strength of silicone products

Tensile strength refers to the force required on each range unit to cause a sample of rubber material to tear. Thermal sulfide solid silicone rubber tensile strength range between 4.0-12.5MPa. The tensile strength of fluorosilicone rubber ranges from 8.7-12.1MPa. The tensile strength of liquid silicone rubber ranges from 3.6-11.0MPa.

Tear strength of silicone products

Resistance to incisional or notched expansion when applied to a notched sample. Even after being cut and placed under extremely high torsional stress, the hot sulfide solid silicone rubber can not be torn. Hot sulfide solid silicone rubber tear strength range between 9-55 kN/m. The tearing strength of fluorosilicone rubber ranges from 17.5 kN/m to 46.4 kN/m. The tearing strength of liquid silicone rubber ranges from 11.5-52 kN/m.

Elongation of silicone products

This is usually referred to as "ultimate rupture elongation" or the percentage increase relative to the original length when the sample breaks. The general elongation range of hot sulfide solid silicone rubber is between 90 and 1120%. The general elongation of fluorine silicone rubber is between 159 and 699%. The general elongation of liquid silicone rubber is between 220 and 900%. Different processing methods and the choice of hardener can greatly change the elongation. The elongation of silicone rubber is closely related to temperature.

Operation time of silicone products

Operation time is calculated from the moment the colloid is added to the vulcanizing agent. In fact, there is no complete boundary between this operation time and the curing time. The colloid has undergone curing reaction from the moment the curing agent is added. This operation time means that the curing reaction of the product for 30 minutes can not affect the quality of the finished product. Therefore, the more time saved in the process of product operation, the more beneficial to the finished product.

Vulcanization time of silicone products

Some places would say cure time. That is to say, after such a long time, the vulcanization reaction of silicone is basically over. This is basically done which means that the product is ready to use, but there's actually a very small amount of curing that's not done yet. So products made from silicone rubber, such as silicone molds, usually sit for a while before being put into use.
